While supervised by senior house staff and attending physicians, interns are primarily responsible for patient care. Interns facilitate patient information to team leaders and document the progress of the patients in daily notes. The level of involvement in the decision-making process and the level of responsibility in the care of patients will be individualized; the Program Director determines additional responsibilities based on demonstrated capabilities and satisfactory performance of routine responsibilities. Basic duties include collecting initial database information, constructing plans for further diagnostic and therapeutic efforts, monitoring patients daily, revising care plans, and administering discharge preparations. Independent thinking is encouraged. The goal is to provide the appropriate guidance and supervision to gradually increase intern involvement in the care of patients.
