What is Interventional Radiology (IR)

IR uses minimally-invasive, image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases in nearly every organ system. This minimizes the risk to the patient and helps improve the overall outcomes. These procedures have less risk, less pain and less recovery time compared to open surgery.

Who Are Interventional Radiologists?

Interventional Radiologists are board-certified physicians who specialize in minimally invasive, targeted treatments. They offer the most in-depth knowledge of the least invasive treatments available and diagnostic and clinical experience across all specialties. Using X-rays, MRI and other imaging, they advance a catheter in the body, usually in an artery, to treat the disease internally, directly at the source. Interventional radiologists have pioneered minimally invasive modern medicine.

For many years, surgery was the only treatment option for many conditions. Today, interventional radiology treatments are first-line care for many conditions. It is important to get a second opinion and know all your treatment options before consenting to any procedure or surgery.
