Radiology and Imaging Services

At Presence Saint Francis, we offer the latest advancements in radiology and imaging technology for diagnosing and treating a wide range of illnesses and injuries, including:

  • Bone density (DEXA): Uses low-dose X-rays to measure calcium and other minerals in your bones. We use DEXA scans to predict and detect osteoporosis.
  • Breast imaging: Helps diagnose breast cancer by providing MRI, ultrasound or stereotactic mammography imaging scans to guide a breast biopsy (a tissue sample to analyze for signs of breast cancer). Our core needle technology uses a special vacuum-assisted needle to draw out tissue from suspicious areas.
  • 64-Slice LightSpeed CT (computed tomography) scan: Uses specialized X-ray equipment to produce 3-D, cross-sectional images of the body. We can use CT scans to diagnose broken bones, many types of cancer, blood clots, signs of heart disease and internal bleeding.
  • 3T MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan: Uses a large magnet and radio waves to produce images of organs and other internal structures. Our wide-bore MRI provides a more open experience for patients and reduces scan time by about half without compromising image quality. We use MRI scans to diagnose many conditions, especially conditions of the brain and spinal cord.
  • Nuclear medicine scan: Uses radioactive substances to produce images of internal structures and body functions. We use nuclear scans to diagnose cancer, injuries and infections and perform cardiac stress testing.
  • PET (positron emission tomography) scan: Uses radioactive substances injected into the bloodstream to produce images of the brain, blood flow in the body and possible tumors.
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery: Delivers high doses of radiation precisely focused on a tumor without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. Radiosurgery is an excellent alternative treatment that requires no incision, reducing your risk of complications and speeding your recovery time.
  • Ultrasound: Uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of organs and internal structures. We often use ultrasound to diagnose conditions in the blood vessels, heart, kidneys, liver, and other organs. During pregnancy, doctors use ultrasound to view the fetus.
  • X-ray: Uses electromagnetic radiation waves to produce images of internal body structures. We use X-rays to diagnose a wide range of injuries and illnesses, from broken bones to pneumonia to breast cancer (in mammograms).

Interventional Radiology at Presence Saint Francis

Our two board-certified, fellowship-trained interventional radiology (IR) specialists use advanced imaging equipment to guide small instruments through the body. We can treat a wide range of medical conditions, such as varicose veins, fibroids and vascular disease, with interventional radiology. Most procedures require small or no incisions, and we offer them on an outpatient basis with significantly reduced risk, pain and recovery time.
