Residency Programs

Life as a resident

An important goal of residency at Resurrection includes making your time with us enjoyable and memorable. This includes building camaraderie and long lasting peer relationships outside of work which will ultimately enhance your learning experience at work. We are committed in providing the residents all of the necessary resources to lead healthy and successful professional lives.

Soon after orientation week, several attendings work together to organize a conference day where you not only get a little taste of the hospitals at which you work but also of many Chicago landmarks. This year, Dr. Herman and Masterson set up the "Res Amazing Race" which was a big hit with everyone.

Also at the beginning of the academic year, all the residents and many attendings and staff spend a day at our Annual Retreat (photo below). Last year we spent the day at beautiful Illinois Beach State Park in Zion, Illinois.

Residents attend a different CME conference each year of residency. The first year residents attend AAEM (Academy of Academic Emergency Medicine) or SAEM (Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, photo below); the second year residents attend ICEP (Illinois College of Emergency Physicians) and its board review course "EM: Review Intensive;" and the third year residents, ACEP (American College of Emergency Physicians). Besides traveling to great locations and getting more involved in the emergency medicine specialty, you have time to really bond with your class.

Nearing the end of the year, there is the annual Monarch Ball (photo below), sponsored by Resurrection Health Care. It is a true gala event and a time to show off your best while mingling with attendings and important sponsors, donors and administrators of the organization. All third year residents are invited and attend for free due to the generosity of the EM attendings.

To celebrate each class' successful time at Resurrection, there is "graduation" (photo below) and various organized festivities surrounding the event.

Of course this is only a small sampling of what life at Res is like and we take full advantage of the endless possibilities Chicago and its surrounding areas provide. We are proud to be a tight-knit community in the nation's third largest (and arguably the best) city.
