Long-time donor Doris Buttel is a retired nurse with a big heart. Over the years she has contributed more than $325,000 to PLC’s Presence Saint Joseph Center in Freeport. Thanks to Doris, the residents now enjoy lift chairs and guest sitting chairs in every room, newly renovated dining room, new heating and cooling system for the chapel, and updated private rooms in the Oceanview rehab unit.
Nancy Lewis made a significant gift to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital-Chicago in gratitude for the care her husband, George, received during his illness with cancer. "When the opportunity came to support the Cancer Center at Presence Saint Joseph Hospital, it just felt like the right thing to do," she said. "When I give, I choose places I feel are going to do the most good and make the most impact."
San Diego resident Joan Ames was traveling to London when she experienced a medical emergency mid-flight. After landing at O’Hare, she was taken directly to Presence Resurrection Medical Center. During her eight-day stay, she said the nurses took wonderful care of her. Joan and her husband, Bill, made a $10,000 gift to thank the nurses. “If I ever need surgery again, I will fly back to Chicago to get my care at PRMC.”
Grateful patient Jim Heins, a retired economics professor from the University of Illinois, donated $200,000 to Presence Covenant Medical Center. This gift will help place emergency room patients suffering from mental illness into shelters. Jim has endowed the Heins Family CRC Fund to help these patients take a big step towards treatment – a roof over their heads.
Dr. James Sullivan pledged $20,000 for the Presence Center for Advanced Care at Presence Saint Joseph Hospital-Chicago where he has specialized in infectious diseases for 25 years. He sees 500 HIV patients annually, including those at our clinic for low-income patients.
Dr. Daniel Streitz and Dr. Stephanie Streitz have pledged $25,000 to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center designated for the Emergency Department renovation. Dan Streitz, a dentist, is a member of the PSJMC Foundation Board as well as the golf committee. Stephanie Streitz is a veterinarian.
