Virginia Long was introduced to health care as a child and she committed to a career in health care for all the right reasons.
She gave of herself and always held staff to the highest level of delivery. The Infection Control program she established at AMITA Health St. Mary's Kankakee still exists today. The policies and procedures she wrote are still in force. Virginia always promoted best practice in all she did and in all the staff she supervised during her 20+ years at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital.
This scholarship was set up by Virginia and her family in her honor to help those pursuing a career in the nursing profession.
Virginia passed away in 2012. To date, the Virginia Long Scholarship has awarded over $10,000 to aid local nursing students on their journey.
