2016 Servant Leader. Presence St. Mary’s Hospital to Honor Maureen O’Connor

Presence St. Mary’s Hospital is pleased to honor Maureen O’Connor as the recipient of the 2016 Servant Leader of the Year award. A recognition dinner will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at the Kankakee Country Club.

In selecting O’Connor for this award, the hospital recognized her as a leader who cultivates a spirit of philanthropy throughout the Kankakee area.Maureen O'Connor

“There is no finer example of a servant leader than Maureen O’Connor,” said Amy M. LaFine, executive director of Presence Health Foundation in Kankakee. “She has had an enormous impact on an infinite number of people and organizations in our community and, in doing so, has inspired many others to lead and to serve.”

O’Connor began volunteering at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in 1994. During the school year, she leads a combination puppet show and hospital tours for children to help alleviate fears if they are hospitalized.

When the hospital’s volunteer program expanded to include the Presence Health Kankakee Regional Ministries, O’Connor was instrumental in developing and coordinating the “Little Picassos” art program at Presence Fortin Villa. The program is a series of art classes for children ages two through five. “This project would not be a success without Maureen’s leadership and dedication,” said Ronda Bond, Kankakee Regional Director Volunteer Services.

As past president of the hospital’s Auxiliary, O’Connor has been instrumental in growing recognition of the organization, volunteerism, and stewardship throughout the community and even the country.

In 2004, she accepted the national award from the American Hospital Association for the Auxiliary’s Caring Tree program which helps those in need throughout the community. “Maureen is so passionate for this project she has been its one and only chair,” praised Bond.

Reservations are required to attend the recognition dinner, which begins at 5:30 p.m. The price per ticket is $50. For more information, go to or call 815.937.8795. The event is open to the community.
