A flute of red, black, and gold balloons descended on guests at the Presence St. Mary’s Hospital (PSMH) annual gala to celebrate a milestone in philanthropy: The total funds raised by the hospital’s galas over the past 17 years reached and surpassed the $1 million mark.
“Many people in our community have been helped and many lives have been saved thanks to the wonderful support generated by our galas,” said Amy LaFine, executive director of Presence St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation. “Our galas have also helped bring scores of advanced technology to our patients, such as 3D mammography, surgical services, portable X-ray systems, and bronchoscopy. All have enriched the high-quality, patient-centered care provided at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital.”
Over 320 guests were treated to a touch of Tinseltown on Oct. 17 as they were greeted by the infamous white Hollywood sign mounted on the lawn at the Hilton Garden Inn. They walked the red carpet and entered a 1940’s-era cocktail party to be entertained by the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Humphrey Bogart, with Frank Sinatra swooning his signature tunes.
The special evening of friendship and philanthropy honored Brian A. Field, M.D., as the Physician of the Year, and raised significant funds for new, improved, life-giving services for all women.
“We are incredibly grateful for the outstanding generosity and support of our community for Presence St. Mary’s Hospital,” noted Presence Health South Suburban Region President and CEO Kathleen Rhine. “The evening was a wonderful celebration of our hospital’s dedication to the health of our community, to our founding Sisters, to our physicians and nurses, and to every patient who turns to us for care.”
The 2015 gala included live and silent auctions and a raffle for a trip to Hollywood. Ambiance and decorations were inspired by Kim McDermott, Ronda Bond and Susan Krone. Additionally, Brian A. Field, M.D., was presented with the PSMH Physician of the Year Award. Nominated by his physician and nurse co-workers, Dr. Field was singled out for his dedication to the genuine care of patients and for living the mission of Presence Health in all of his encounters and endeavors.
