Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center Announces $3 Million Plan to Improve Accessibility for the Disabled Community
July 19, 2016 - Chicago, Ill. – Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center (PSMEMC) announced today it will invest approximately $3 million over the next five years to enhance the accessibility of its facilities and thereby improve service for the disabled community. The plan includes new accessible patient rooms, bathrooms, signage and parking as well as other facilities upgrades suggested by the disabled community. PSMEMC will also update their policies and train caregivers to provide even more sensitive and compassionate care to those with disabilities.
“These plans are a direct result of feedback we received from patients with disabilities,” said Martin Judd, PSMEMC president and CEO. “With these upgrades, we are making investments to better serve our patient population in the future. We listened very closely to what members of the disabled community had to say. We want everyone to feel when they visit our hospital they are receiving the very best in patient care in the most up-to-date facilities with the best equipment.”
“We commend PSMEMC for embracing the concerns of its patients with disabilities,” said Andrés J. Gallegos, Esq., a disability rights attorney with the Chicago law firm of Robbins, Salomon and Patt, Ltd. “The return on its investment is, to a degree, immeasurable when you consider the improvement this will have on the health and well-being of persons with disabilities in the community.”
Work on the facility enhancements will begin later this year.
