Congratulations to Dr. Brian Winkleman (General Surgery) who was recently honored by PSJMC as the “Physician of the Year.” The award recognizes and celebrates an outstanding physician who embodies professionalism, teamwork, clinical excellence and a commitment to personal growth.
Dr. Winkleman joined PSJMC as a General Surgeon in 2009. He is Board Certified in General Surgery and specializes in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. He is a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his Residency in General Surgery at The Ohio State University Medical Center. He also completed a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive, Robotic, and Bariatric Surgery.
The theme for this year’s “Physician of the Year” award program was “The Magic of Medicine,” celebrating the many ways that our physicians consistently amaze and dazzle us and our community with their knowledge, skill, and passion.
Other honorees for the award included: Dr. Ahmad Abdul-Karim (Cardiology), Dr. Mary Fitzgibbon (Obstetrics and Gynecology), Dr. Beata Kisiel (Nephrology), Dr. Stan Knight (Anesthesia), and Dr. Joshua Tepper (Interventional Radiology).
An overwhelming number of physicians, nurses and support staff nominated Dr. Winkleman for the honor. Below are a few excerpts from Dr. Winkleman’s nominations:
“Surgery is a team sport, you have to forge a bond with your nursing colleagues, inside the OR as well as throughout the hospital, on the floor, and Dr. Winkelman does this flawlessly. He’s respectful and genuinely cares, and it comes across when he communicates with nurses, physician colleagues, and his patients.” – Dr. Eric Bass
“Dr. Winkleman is very quality focused, very collaborative, and has very high standards when it comes to patient care. His commitment to rounding sends a very powerful message to the staff and, especially to his patients.” – Cathy Jeropke, Patient Care Manager, 7 East Surgical
“We are so lucky to have Dr. Winkleman as one of our surgeons. Not just because of everything he’s brought to the organization, all of the laparoscopic techniques and gastric bypass, but because of who he is with the staff. Dr. Winkleman really elevates the quality of care that we give here at PSJMC.” – Stacy Baker, RN, BSN, BC
