Deb Koehler was sitting at her desk at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center (PSJMC) when she received a surprised visit by her husband, children and grandchildren. As her name was announced over the Medical Center’s public address system, she understood what this moment meant.
“I was in shock after hearing my name called as the H.O.P.E. Award recipient,” said Koehler. “Having my whole family there to share this remarkable moment with me made it a day I will never forget. I am truly blessed.”
Koehler, a New Lenox resident, is the Department Secretary for Cardiac Services for PSJMC. She was nominated for the award by two of her peers. One nomination stated that Deb “serves PSJMC with amazing patience, organization, and preparedness. She displays a cooperative and harmonious spirit and goes the extra mile to make everyone’s day easier.”
Koehler added, “To know someone took the time to write thoughtful and caring words about the job I do will touch my heart forever.”
Presence Health launched the employee recognition program, the H.O.P.E. awards, to celebrate the health system’s values in action: Honesty, Oneness, People and Excellence. The H.O.P.E. awards recognize employees who exemplify Presence Health Values through their daily work with patients, residents and colleagues, and also serve as respected role models in their communities.
Koehler received a $500 cash prize and overnight stay following the Presence Health System H.O.P.E. Awards presentation at the W Chicago Hotel on Friday, November 6, 2015.
“The H.O.P.E. Award is the highest recognition of our Presence Health core values, and I am so proud of Deb for demonstrating these values to her colleagues and patients each and every day,” said Kathleen Rhine, President & CEO, Presence Health South Suburban Region. “Deb joins our past H.O.P.E. nominees and recipients who have set a high standard of care and compassion at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center.”
Deb Koehler was surprised at work by her family as she learns of her selection as a 2015 Presence Health H.O.P.E. Award recipient.
