Presence Health Brings Visioning to Second System Hospital

Presence Resurrection Medical Center Visioning Process Will Help in Creating a Healthy, Public-Friendly Hospital Campus
Public Welcome to “Field of Dreams” Themed Kick-Off Event

(Chicago): In October 2015, Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center invited West Town residents and businesses to participate in a unique collaborative planning process called Healthy Community Visioning. The intent of this initiative was to develop a health and wellness master plan that will benefit the diverse neighborhoods making up greater West Town.

Beginning with a public opening event on Sunday, June 12 the same weeklong process will take place at Presence Resurrection Medical Center (PRMC) on Chicago’s Northwest Side.

Community members, area business leaders, hospital associates and physicians, government agencies, residents, faith-based and school/youth program organizations will come together to offer personal input with the goal of making PRMC a healthy, public-friendly campus destination for all. The various participating groups will engage in a series of facilitated discussions that will provide information and direction for the crafting of a facility’s master plan to enhance the medical center’s campus.

Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk of Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company, who created and facilitated the West Town Healthy Community Visioning process last fall, will be the key facilitator and designer for the PRMC visioning effort.

“The physicians and staff of Presence Resurrection Medical Center are honored to participate in a process bringing meaningful change to the community we serve,” says PRMC President and CEO, Robert Dahl. “This is a way we can demonstrate our long-term commitment to building healthy communities. This is population health in action.”

In creating a vision for a healthy, public-use friendly medical center campus, session participants will seek to understand:

  • What the community expects in this new age of health care?
  • What the barriers are to receiving the health experience the community expects?
  • What role the medical center plays in the health and wellness of Chicago’s Northwest Side?

To kick things off, there will be an open-to-the-public, baseball-themed event on Sunday, June 12 that will include:

  • Guided activities to gain opinions on how to improve health care on the Northwest Side
  • Raffles for baseball-themed giveaways, including tickets to upcoming Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox games
  • Stadium snacks, including hot dogs and Cracker Jacks

The week-long Presence Resurrection Medical Center visioning process will conclude with a closing celebration event, which will highlight the early findings of Ms. Plater-Zyberk and her team.
