The Leapfrog Group Fall Ratings Place Medical Center at Top Nationally

Chicago, ILPresence Resurrection Medical Center is one of only 8 Chicago hospitals to have earned an “A” Hospital Safety Score, it was announced today by The Leapfrog Group, a national, independent nonprofit.

In an announcement released nationally, data by The Leapfrog Group shows key shifts among many hospitals on the letter grades rating the nation’s hospitals on errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

Presence Resurrection Medical Center’s “A” rating recognizes its strong commitment to patient safety, according to officials for The Leapfrog Group and the Hospital Safety Score. The free Hospital Safety Score is designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.

“There is nothing more important to us than the health and safety of our patients and staff,” said Lowell Johnson, interim president and CEO of Presence Resurrection. “We’re continually looking for even better ways to work to improve our patient safety and quality of care, and appreciate this national recognition for the tireless efforts of our physicians, nurses and other staff.”

“Presence Resurrection Medical Center’s ‘A’ grade is a powerful reminder of its commitment to putting patient safety above all else, and we are pleased to recognize the persistent efforts of your clinicians and staff to protect your patients,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, which administers the Hospital Safety Score. “Our families, neighbors, colleagues and friends deserve a hospital that will pull out all the stops to keep them safe, and we urge Presence Resurrection and all other ‘A’ hospitals to preserve and renew their commitment to safety year after year.”

The Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a letter grade for each hospital, representing that institution’s overall ability to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals were assigned scores in October 2015, with 773 hospitals receiving an “A” grade.

The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent, offering a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining grades on the website. Patients can also review a hospital’s past safety performance alongside the current grade on the Hospital Safety Score site, allowing them to determine which local hospitals have the best track record in demonstrating consistent improvement.
