Ratings exceed Illinois and national average

(Urbana, IL)—Five Presence Home Care agencies, located in Chicago, Elgin, Joliet, Kankakee and Urbana, received outstanding ratings in a recent national ranking of home health care organizations tabulated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Receiving 4.5 stars on the five-star scale are Presence Home Care-Elgin, Presence Home Care-Kankakee and Presence Home Care-Urbana. Receiving four stars are Presence Home Care-Chicago and Presence Home Care-Joliet. These new ratings for more than 12,000 home care agencies are detailed on the new website www.medicare.gov/homehealthcompare.

The ratings received by the five of the agencies, exceeded Illinois and national averages of 3.5 and 3 stars, respectively, for comparable health care organizations.   “This CMS ranking validates what we always believed to be true; that Presence Home Care is built upon the principles of excellence and compassionate care,” said Joe Hugar, CEO of Presence Life Connections, the parent company of Presence Home Care.

“We are continually striving to achieve better quality outcomes and results in the delivery of home-based care,” said Susan Enright, COO, Home Health, Presence Life Connections.  “This rating reinforces our commitment to providing compassionate, quality care for our patients in their homes and involving them in the development of their care plans,” Enright added.

In the new rating system, “Quality of Patient Care Star Ratings” (released on July 16) CMS ranked agencies in nine of 29 quality areas based on assessments the home health agencies made on their own patients. The areas focus on the frequency with which services are delivered and improvements in a patient’s well-being.

The areas used to develop the ratings include, timeliness of care, management of medications, increased mobility and key health status improvements. The new federal rating system is designed to help consumers quickly identify qualitative differences in home care delivery. With the ranking information provided by the CMS, those seeking home care services will have reliable data when making their provider selection.

The rating system, to be updated on a quarterly basis, is a part of a larger effort by the Department of Health and Human Services to transform the health care system to deliver better care, and put patients in the center of their care to keep them healthy.
